TikTok develops an exclusive algorithm for the US

Sources close to TikTok have reported that the social network is developing an algorithm system independent of that of its parent company ByteDance, in order to avoid a possible ban in the United States. This new algorithm, intended for the 170 million American users, has been in development since last year and still requires several months before being ready. The intention is to demonstrate to US lawmakers that TikTok can operate autonomously and safely in the country.

TikTok denies the information

Following Reuters' publication, TikTok quickly called the news "misleading and substantially inaccurate." In a statement on within the required 270-day period.

TikTok official statement

TikTok spokesperson Michael Hughes reaffirmed in an email to The Verge that efforts to protect the authenticity of the TikTok experience continue, but flatly denied that they are working on a source code split that would facilitate divestment, calling the information " 100% false." However, Reuters maintains its position, ensuring the veracity of its report.

TikTok Efforts to Avoid Ban

Despite the controversy, it is clear that TikTok seeks to comply with the requirements of US legislation to avoid being banned in the country. The idea of developing an independent algorithm is not surprising given the context, although TikTok insists that such a project does not exist. The truth appears to lie somewhere in between, as the company struggles to find a mutually acceptable solution.
