The President of the USA has a new enemy: artificial intelligence
Joe Biden promises to "ban AI voice impersonations".
The popularization of artificial intelligence has turned a large part of society upside down. The improvement of generative models and the lack of regulation has led many bad actors to use this tool for dubious purposes, such as identity theft.
And no one is exempt from this sad situation. At the end of January, numerous American citizens received a voice message generated by artificial intelligence that pretended to be Joe Biden. In this message, they were encouraged not to vote in the New Hampshire primaries.
This is not the first time this has happened, and certainly won’t be the last. In his State of the Union speech last Thursday night, Biden called for, among many other things, the ban of AI voice impersonations, as reported by Variety.
During his speech, the president did not go into details about what kind of sanctions he would use against the misuse of AI. In legal terms, we are still in a gray area where the most affected sectors fight for their rights as best they can. The strike by the actors’ union is a good example of this, where an agreement was reached regarding consent and compensation received for the use of AI.
